Another gorgeous journal by Peter Pauper Press. The cover of this one is very colorful and based on Catalan Atlas from 1375, attributed to the master map-maker Abraham Cresques of Spain.The diagram has earth in the center with an astronomer holding an astrolabe. I didn’t know what an astrolabe was so I looked it up. “An astrolabe is an instrument formerly used to make astronomical measurements, typically of the altitudes of celestial bodies, and in navigation for calculating latitude, before the development of the sextant. In its basic form (known from classical times), it consists of a disk with the edge marked in degrees and a pivoted pointer.†Around the earth are the elements, planets, signs of the zodiac, moon phases in the circles. The fours season as shown in the corners.The cover, back and spine are all embossed and enhanced with subtle iridescent highlights which make it stand out. The design is full of gold, brown and blue colors that make this journal look very rich. The page edges are also gold. The spine of Peter Pauper journals are always interesting and this one has matching diamond shapes in the blue, gold and browns seen on the cover. This makes it stand out in the bookshelf.There is 192 lined pages in the journal. They are acid-free archival paper. The inside and back covers are gold and there’s a matching ribbon bookmark inside. The journal lays flat to make it easier to write your thoughts down.This journal is hardcover and is 7.25 x 9 inches.The beauty, detail and workmanship put into these journals make them very desirable in my opinion.
This was the first Peter Pauper Press journal I had ever ordered. I was actually searching for Paperblanks journals, when these popped up at the bottom. I decided to check them out since the price was so extremely affordable. I was not sure what to expect, but it arrived today. I actually bought this one and the Bordeaux Journal, and these probably won't be my last PPP purchase, for sure. I love the paper, it's nice and thick and smooth. I used Frixion Pens and Staedtler pens on it, and I have colored in and over on parts of the paper, and there is not that irritating imprint that can sometimes be seen on the back of the page on cheaper paper.I am not sure how the paper in these works for fountain pens as I do not use fountain pens, but it handles my pens quite well. It is lightly lined, and it has a nice gold ribbon bookmark.The binding is really nice, and it lays flat for me when I write, so far.I prefer a closure on my journals, but for under $10?? This is such a perfect journal purchase.I am attaching pictures.
Beautiful book. The cover is fascinating and intricate. The gold edges on the paper really step the quality up a notch. A review I read mentioned the cover isn't "shiny" like the promo pictures and that the paper is poor quality. Regarding the cover it is actually even more beautiful than the pictures show - the moon phases and the gold behind the horoscope characters really catch the light as does the gold in the "grid pattern" behind the characters in each corner of the cover/back of the book. The paper itself seems to be of a good quality - not too thin - though I haven't written anything in the book yet so I cannot contest to whether certain pens bleed or show through. I love that the paper is off-white to compliment the gold tones throughout the rest of the book.
The quality/price/design are all great. It's a high point of the brand for me - I've probably bought Peter Pauper notebooks about a dozen or so times over the past couple years. I love Moleskin and a few other brands, but they're just a bit too pricey for me, and they don't deliver anything more in terms of design or quality.Many of Pauper's products are utilitarian - great quality inside and out, designed well, but ordinary notebooks. They have some lines, though, where they pull out all the stops - and it's so fun to be able to write in them. It's like I'm writing in museum piece or something. 😂This one's a real showstopper, too. Take this to a cafe or office and you will get some "wows." It looks and feels way more expensive than it is - the pictures look great, but it looks even better in person, IMO.I typically buy a few extra journals at any given time. There's just so many uses for them - diaries, notes, creative inspiration, etc. And I always keep a few extra nice ones around for last minute gifts, Yankee Swaps, etc. - and this would definitely qualify as something someone would remember and many, many would appreciate. Not bad for something that costs less than $20.

I love this journal! I am so stoked about the quality of this journal that I will be getting another journal from this same company. The book is bigger than the average journal but it is a dream to write in. I always hate getting to the end of the page when writing, but this journal makes that problem of mine go away because it lays so flat. The lines are faint but dark enough so you can see them. I just love everything about the style, feel of the pages, how it lays, just everything! I can't wait to get another one with a different cover! This particular cover is absolutely gorgeous but I am almost at the end of my pages to write in and I like to change up my journals. Otherwise I would get another just like it. This would make an excellent gift or just an awesome writing tool like I use mine for.
This journal is beautiful, I couldn't be happier. The price was amazing, and the fact it was an Amazon Prime item, and I got it was quickly was great.I don't understand why people were complaining about the cover. It's very vibrant it's artwork is called Catalan Atlas it was done by Abraham Cresques in 1375. The pages are thick and sturdy, I can't say enough good about this journal.
