From the Inside Flap

Too often, greed and materialism can choke out the true spirit of generosity found only in Christ. In this new, revised edition of The Blessed Life--featuring fresh stories, illustrations, and testimonials--Robert Morris, founding senior pastor of Gateway Church, examines the true meaning of the blessed life. The enemy wants to keep you from discovering God's principles governing the financial stewardship, giving, and the blessing. Why? Because once you do, it will change every area of your life from your marriage to your health and finances. It will also impact the kingdom of God. What if every needed church facility could be built? What if every missionary could be sent and abundantly supplied? What if the gospel could saturate every culture on the planet? When God changes your heart from selfishness to generosity, every part of your life journey is affected. With humor, passion, and clarity, Robert presents this truth on the pages of The Blessed Life.|Robert Morris is the founding senior pastor of Gateway Church, a multicampus church in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. Since it began in 2000, the church has grown to more than 36,000 active members. He is featured on the weekly television program The Blessed Life and serves as chairman of the board of The King's University. He is the bestselling author of 14 books, including The Blessed Life, The God I Never knew, Truly Free, and Frequency. Robert and his wife, Debbie, have been married 36 years and are blessed with one married daughter, two married sons, and six grandchildren.

From the Back Cover

Since its original release in 2002, The Blessed Life has helped millions of people discover the joy of generosity."My friend, Robert, gave me a free copy of The Blessed Life shortly after it was released. God used the book to move me to whole new levels of generosity, making The Blessed Life the most expensive free book I have every read!"--Bill Hybels, senior pastor, Willow Creek Community Church; Chairman of the Board, Willow Creek Association"The discussion of generosity can go in a million different directions, and it can be hard to see the truth among all the misinformation. But The Blessed Life brings a biblical, evangelical, well-balanced view of giving that all Christ-followers can benefit from. I can't recommend it highly enough, and you're going to be glad I told you to read this book!"--Dave Ramsey, New York Times bestselling author and nationally syndicated radio show host"In The Blessed Life, Robert Morris perfectly communicates his life message about giving. So many people in this modern world view giving through legalistic eyes or as a way to get back more than what they give. This book resists that outlook by explaining that the purpose of generosity is simply to be generous. It's a revelation that has changed my life and I hope it changes yours as well."--John C. Maxwell, leadership expert, author, and speaker"This book challenged the way I view money, the way I use money, and the way I trust God. In any discussion about finances and spirituality, this book deserves a place at the table."--Max Lucado, pastor and author

Fantastic book. A kind lady at church snagged me a free copy. Though I'm only 2/3 done with mine, I appreciate its Scripture-based teachings enough that I bought one for a friend. As Mr. Morris writes, the blessed life isn't about "give to get." You'll find no prosperity gospel here. It's about trusting God financially. The book is rich with stories about God's direction to Mr. Morris and other believers as far as who to give what, and their obedience to Him even when they didn't understand why - stories that tell so much about their hearts of thankful, devoted friendship toward God. From that springs their motive for generosity.I highly recommend this book for every believer!

I was on the fence about tithing and giving extra to my church. I had always thought that I couldn't tithe 10% and was challenged by my pastor to try it for a period of time. So, I tried it and I struggled emotionally with the decision. I confided in a friend about this and he suggested that I read Morris' book, "The Blessed Life". Let me tell you, this book is great. I am no longer on the fence about tithing or giving. I am actually trying to find ways to be able to give more... and it's not because I will be blessed, rather it's because I want to be a blessing to others. This is NOT prosperity gospel. The truth is that if you bless others you will be blessed. It is a biblical concept and one I believe to be true. God provides. The book starts with the author's own account of how he has given from the time he was first married. He gave and gave and gave; and he was blessed for doing so. On numerous occasions, he felt God telling him to give all or almost all of his money away. When he would do this, God would bless him with more money, and tell him to bless others by giving it away. That's the gist of this book. Giving, not getting. The principle is that you do get, but the point is that you give it away. Too many believers want to get rich to get rid of problems, but are unwilling to give from what they currently have. They are like me and say, "I can't afford to give ten percent." Don't get me wrong - I still struggle with the whole giving thing. I didn't grow up with a lot of money and I like to hold on to what I have, but God is teaching me daily that to be a blessing to others I have to give NOW... not ten years from now, not when I am more financially stable, not when I feel I'm ready... but NOW. In the midst of my turmoil, my doubt, and my worry... to give NOW. So, that's what I'm doing and this book has really helped mold my perspective about giving.I want to be a blessing to other people - I want to give when God says "give"... and I believe He tells me that a lot. Just time for me to start being obedient. This is a top notch, solid, biblical, awesome book! I recommend it to ANYBODY who is a believer in Jesus. It's just that good. I will probably re-read it just because I liked it so much, something I never do. Get this book - you won't be disappointed.

Of course you expect a pastor to quote scriptures. But, frankly, when it comes to "Christian" books about money, I've become jaded. Pastor Morris speaks from an obvious life LIVED in the Scriptures he references. He speaks with passionate conviction from experience . . . and that's something I'm not sure I've seen before. He lights a pathway that he is obviously following and encourages me (the reader) along the same path. Happily, I sense God has had me more or less on this path for many years--not running in the same way Pastor Morris has been, but running nonetheless. Pastor Morris provides the encouragement and pointers that only a coach who has run the race before you can provide. Many key concepts and challenges, but for me, the three levels of giving was/is particularly helpful: tithing, offering, and painful/extravagant offering.Pastor Morris is used to hearing the voice of the Lord--so that he and his wife have given all the money they have (including savings, investments, retirement funds, etc.) at least twice in their married life together. THAT'S the "widow's mite" kind of giving, the kind Jesus did (in the form of His life). THAT'S extravagant/painful giving! --I haven't gotten there. But I'm grateful to learn of at least a goodly portion of the "training regimen" one might need to follow to get there!Thank you, Pastor Morris!

I am currently deployed overseas. As I watched my home church two weeks ago, Pastor Robert delivered the message. As I listened to his message, I said I need to know more. At the end of his message, our home church Pastor P told us about the book that would be given to every church family. Since I am deployed, I could not get the free book but the money spent was well worth the book. I spend each start of the day reading a chapter. I just finished today and I feel somewhat empowered. I was first caught off guard by the final chapter but the message given there is a question I have always had. I now understand.Read the book. Follow the guidance and listen to The Lord. I will tell you that my finances have never hurt since we became tithers. I was only tithing ten percent of the net but now I give gladly ten percent of the gross. It has yet to negatively impact our house. I am moving to the next level of offerings as we speak. God has always pressed on my heart that when I am in church and have money in my pocket, I should always put it in the offering plate. I have resisted at times but when I get back home, I will give gladly whether it be a dollar or a hundred, I will give freely to God, our precious Father. I have said all this so that you understand that this book helped the father press down on my heart. This book is a fantastic journey to take you to a better place with the Father. Follow it's guidance and be prepared to be blessed beyond belief.
