About the Author
Pamela Crawford, author of ten gardening books, is considered one of the most accomplished container garden experts in the country. In addition to designing gardens for over 1500 residences, her work has been featured on the cover of Better Homes and Gardens publications as well as in Southern Living, HGTV Magazine, Fine Gardening, Country Gardens, Country Almanac, Small Gardens, and in over fifty newspapers. As an expert in her field, she has appeared on the Fine Living Network, gardenloverstv.com, Fox News affiliates and numerous local tv shows. Pamela has an undergraduate degree from Vanderbilt University and a masters degree in landscape architecture from Florida International University, where she received the prestigious Torch Award as an outstanding alumnus from the school of architecture. Pamela has been heavily involved in trial gardens, both on a university and private level. Her goal is to find plants that give the most color for the least amount of care. This is her fifth book on container gardening.

I am so disappointed I spent nearly $20 on this book. I wanted a book on herb and flower companion planting. So I expected an information packed volume on how to combine herbs and flowers together in containers. I wanted particular information on which herbs and flowers did well together based on their water, light and fertilizing requirements. Though the book is 156 pages long it uses the largest font imaginable (it looks like large print for the seeing impaired) and so barely had any useful information because the author kept repeating herself. While I like pictures just as much as the next person this book was picture heavy and content poor. I just felt like this was an excuse for product placement- product placement for Crawford's own brand of fertilizer, the brand of pots she uses and even for rugs. Granted she gives you precise directions to replicate her pots exactly but doesnt teach you anything about why these combinations would work and how you could riff of the information she shares to make your own combinations. I would totally return this product if I could because I dont think it going to be a useful reference. And thats sad to say because Im a gardening beginner.
I saw the author on a PBS program and was attracted to her expertise on container gardening. It is very picture heavy, but also has text explaining the best varieties she found for this kind of gardening. I plan to refer to it for some time.

We downsized from a home with a big garden to a townhouse with a patio. This book helped me create an interesting display of pots chocked full of flowers and our favorite herbs. I followed it step by step and the results are amazing!
